about
This song is a hypnotic journey into the underworld, abruptly interrupted by its own lack of cadence and resolution. Inspired by a surreal dream sequence of a fenced off forest and a hologram of plants rapidly sprouting their filament roots at my face (making me scream). This song is a warning to my future self to not allow myself to be stripped of my gifts by the music industry; to stay rooted in my unique voice. Let go of the vined thresholds, ascend towards the gates of inner potential.
tell me, are these dreamscapes in my head
dripping with some truth i’ve yet to have read?
they peel me so sweet as tangerines,
drip down my face with bleeding veins.
.
verse 2:
I can hear you calling my name,
I can hear you, calling my song.
I can’t hear your face, so far away
I can’t see your name, may be a mistake…
.
refrain 1:
Yeah my name, it
might be a mistake...
and,
in my home, I
feel so out of place.
.
chorus 1:
All these vined thresholds
They hold me so close, smother my cradle,
[can’t leave me for dead.]
All my vined thresholds
I burst/burn through their fence,
run towards the gates…
refrain 2:
away from her gaze.
away from her, gaze.
pre-bridge:
i’m
refraining up hilled inclines,
back turned to green gate vines,
running towards the fenced woods, i’m
belting like unsung bassoons [to unsleep.]
.
bridge 1:
I don’t wanna change,
blockage in the strain,
smartphone on a stage,
pumping me with rage: [fear]
soil flatlined on blank skies,
rowed like corporate coke lines
sprout orange, yellow, red kale leaves
plants alien like Mc D’s
ivory roots of tendrils; i scream;
reaching at me through shiny coal screens. [pumped with rage, i mean fear, i mean—]
.
chorus 2:
all these vined thresholds
hold me so close, smother my cradle,
can’t leave me for dead.
chant:
Just let me know, always be there for
Just let me know, always be there for
Just let me know, always be there for you
Just sign your name so I sing through your throat.
[can’t leave me for dead.]//[ivory roots of tendrils; i scream;
reaching at me through coal screens.]
.
chorus 3/chant:
Just let me know, always be there for you
(all these vined thresholds)
Just let me know, always be there for you
(choking my mind-core)
Just let me know, always be there for...
(I can hear you calling my name, I can hear you, calling my song.)
outro:
think I can’t breathe by the way you choke, i
think I can’t breathe by the way you choke me.
